Casapueblo: A Whimsical Building by the Uruguayan Artist

Casapueblo was built by the Uruguayan artist Carlos Páez Vilaró initially as a summer home and a workshop in Punta Ballena, Uruguay. It includes several facilities such as a museum, an art gallery, a cafeteria, and a hotel. In 1985, Vilaró started the construction around a wooden box which he used as his atelier. Although the style of the building resembles the houses in the Mediterranean coast of Santorini, Vilaró says that his actual source of inspiration was a nest of a common bird from Uruguay called hornero.
