We?ve seen quite a few circular houses in the listings recently, from this eclectic midcentury in Dallas to late American comedian, actor, and musician Jackie Gleason?s $12M house in New York. In Illinois, however, a much more affordable round house is on the market, this time by American architect Bruce Goff.
Known for his bold otherworldly designs, Goff built nearly 140 structures, including this three-bedroom, two-bath home from 1955. Called the ?Garvey Round House,? the property boasts 2,520 square feet on a .3-acre lot and was designed for a violinist who taught at the University of Illinois, Urbana.
The centerpiece of the home is the expansive round living room which was originally envisioned as the music room. Reminiscent of a giant circular conversation pit, the main area of the room is recessed several steps below the entrance level and features a stage-like wooden platform. Wood ceilings are complemented by a center skylight and the entire circle features a continuous row of white columns.
