this proposal for the brazil pavilion at expo 2020 dubai is a modular wooden structure clad with a variety of curtains and screens. the scheme, drawn up by oyapock architectes and andré scarpa, was shortlisted as part of a competition to determine the design of the country?s pavilion at the upcoming world expo. the temporary structure explores brazil?s historical dichotomy between man and nature.

the pavilion, which was designed by paris- and são paulo-based firm oyapock architectes and brazilian architect andré scarpa, showcases the country?s diversity ? both in terms of its population and landscape. in addition to the amazon forest, the proposal also considers the atlantic ocean and its coastal rainforest, the northeastern caatinga?s arid zone, cerrado?s savanna, the prairies of the pampas, and the marshes of pantana.

visitors to expo 2020 dubai will approach a structure made from a modular wooden grid. light effects, intensified by flowing curtains and the reflections on shallow pools of water, lend the scheme a mysterious quality. once inside, guests climb a gentle ramp that leads to the pavilion?s upper level before encountering the first part of the exhibition and a multi-functional space.
