Bota Bota
Welcome to the world of spa and relaxation.
A ferry boat that once was used for transporting passengers, today is a floating spa and wellness center in Montreal. The ferryboat was build in 1951 and it was originally named Arthur Cardin.
It took two years to renovate this boat and to be transformed into a luxury center for relaxation, named Bota Bota. Â Sid Lee is the architectural studio standing behind this design, where the visitors can have relaxing treatments and enjoy in the Montreal’s old port. For repairing the damages the boat was taken to a dry land where the renovation was completed. While renovating, five new levels were added, which provides more floor space.
This floating Scandinavian spa is an ambitious architectural project where the light and the dark coexist. Â The quests must cross over Quai des eclusiers and the train bridge, then enter the style gardens which stands in contrast with the old port. To provide more light on the boat, the architects have added 650 porthole windows from prefab metal panels.
The quests forget they’re on a boat and can move from one level to another, watching the city from a different height. The rooms which are closer to the water are darker, tranquil and intimate and opposite – the rooms which are closer to the top desk  have impressive views of the horizon with more light for a better connection with the nature and the surrounding water.
You must admit that the spa owners took a big risk by opening spa ...
