Architect couple?s 11-foot-wide house makes small living stylish
Cute! Japan doesn?t have a monopoly on the skinny house, though the southeast Asian country?s dense metropolises have garnered attention for their affinity for the dwelling type. Case in point" This 3.4-meter-wide (that?s 11 feet), 20-meter-deep (65 feet) home for an architect couple in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Dutch architects Gwendolyn Huisman and Marijn Boterman designed this narrow home for themselves. It features a black-masonry facade punctuated by two protruding, square windows and strategic perforations that let light into the interiors. Things inside are minimally appointed, but include playful, multi-use storage and furniture that make things livable; an indoor hammock, built into a section of the floor on the second level, offers a place to relax, while a plywood bookshelf built around a concrete structural column in the house provides storage space.
