The tech behemoth is taking 500,000 square feet for a new campus at the site The gorgeous Art Deco power station at the Battersea development?the same one that appears on Pink Floyd's album cover for Animals and that Bjarke Ingels wants to decorate with lightning?will become Apple?s new London HQ, according to The Spaces.
Apple has signed on to occupy six floors of the station?s Boiler House, at a total exceeding 500,000 square feet. When the space is complete in 2021, an estimated 1,400 Apple staff members will work from the site. But the iconic 1930s power station rehab is just a portion of the massive 42-acre mixed-use Battersea development project. Architecture heavyweights Frank Gehry and Norman Foster have both designed buildings, with Ingels tapped to create a public square.
Battersea will be one of London?s largest developments in decades, at a cost of more than $12.6 billion.
With Apple signed on as a high-profile anchor tenant leasing about 40 percent of the office space, the future is looking bright for Battersea.
