andre chiote depicts religious architecture as graphic illustrations
porto-based illustrator, andre chiote, has transformed a series of well-known religious buildings into a collection of captivating architectural posters. titled ?sacred spaces? the project pays homage to symbolic places of worship and celebration from all over the world.

presented by chiote as an architectural treaty, the sacred spaces are illustrated in a homogeneous way, in an attempt to highlight the most identifiable aspects of each building. simplified geometries contrast with natural elements, such as sky, water and trees, in a graphic game to create a dialogue between a man-made intervention and a (supposed) divine natural creation.

from le corbusier?s famous chapel to a more contemporary church by vicens + ramos, the series conveys that while everything around is changing, these monuments remain as exceptional buildings. as iconic constructions, some of these buildings in our era will remain in the future as patrimony of our current society and architectural landscape. in essence, by drawing these sacred spaces, chiote intends to trace the legacy of our civilization.
