It floats 300 feet above the city
The skybridge at the American Copper Buildings in Manhattan?s Kips Bay neighborhood is considered the first major skybridge to be built in New York City in 80 years. Even without that designation, it?s still an impressive feat of architecture and engineering.
Designed by SHoP Architects, the 761-unit residential complex comprises two copper-clad towers that bend at the point where the 100-foot-long skybridge connects the two. The skybridge itself spans three floors?from the 27th to the 29th?and was built using 400,000 pounds of steel. There?s a lightness to the space, however, which floats 300 feet above the city and features floor-to-ceilings windows that offer stunning views of the East River and Manhattan skyline.
The skybridge is also home to the towers? luxurious amenities, including a double-height fitness center, a climbing wall, juice bar, lounge area, and, its pièce de résistance, a sparkling 75-foot lap pool with a hot tub and hammam. But for those renters looking to swim high above the sky, the pool and other amenities come at an extra fee.
