river house by alexis dornier is a five-bedroom residence located in pererenan, bali, whose main structure and surfaces are built with reclaimed timber and locally sourced sandstone. the living rooms and garden of the premises are located on the ground level, while, above them, seemingly hovers a cubic volume, which contains all private spaces. the house?s terrace is complete with an expansive, long and narrow pool that creates a graphic juxtaposition to the first floor?s horizontal configuration.all images © kiearch
 
 
alexis dornier has embedded the existing topography of bali?s beautiful landscape within the inside of the building, using it as the over-arching feature for a three dimensional experience. a palm tree forest, banana and bodhi trees surround the building and make it part of the silhouette consisting of rolling hills and lush rice fields. different passages, walkways and spaces lead through the house, where reclaimed timber and locally sourced sandstone evoke a sense of timelessness, firmness and reference back to bali?s vernacular building culture.
