Turnbull Griffin Haesloop are responsible for this project located in the Chileno Valley, just a few minutes away from downtown Petaluma, California. The Hupomone Ranch is a 160-acre homestead that had been left uncultivated for over 30 years when the young family who owned it decided they wanted to build a barn house there that would “reflect their commitment to sustainable farming, draw on the natural serenity of the site and build on the sense of place in western Petaluma where farming and ranching are still a part of people?s daily lives.”

Certified LEED Platinum, the house is decked out with all kinds of energy saving features that exceed Title 24 by over 95% – passive heating and cooling with thermal mass and insulation, Geothermal, and radiant cooling and heating with solar and photovoltaic panels.
A glass paneled wall on one side of the house fills the living room with natural light. The roof extends out past the structure to provide shelter over the back patio.

A loft on the other side of the living room offers shelter for the entryway. The bedrooms reside off either side of the living room, as does the kitchen.

A pool and pool house sit opposite the barn house.

The pool house mimics the main house in color and roof slant.
