1964 Mid Century Revision by Christopher Allen
This 1964 mid century home was given new life by Christopher Allen. The house instantly caught my attention. The clean lines mixed with warm tones provide an iconic home. I asked Christopher to share some additional info with me about this project.
The house was originally in a lesser known royal oaks mid-century enclave in Encino. Christopher worked with woods+dangaran, who have opened their own practice in culver city here in LA. “these guys are super-talented and amazing human beings. definitely keep your eyes on these guys.”
We did a lot of structural work on the project, maybe most excitingly cantilevering the outside corner of the double infinity edge of the pool off the hillside. we installed vein-cut travertine throughout. all casework (with the exception of the laundry room) was teak-veneered. I custom-made several pieces for the project, including the dining table/buffet/master bed frame and side tables/etc. Chris Sosa did the landscape architecture. He was the director of he landscape studio at marmol radziner prior to starting his own independent practice. Chris did extensive work to the 1.64 acre lot.
THIS IS WHY THE HOUSE IS SO PERFECT. “we were all on the same page with the vision and execution of the house.” It shows!
