UNStudio set to build Dubai tower with world's tallest ceramic facade

UNStudio has unveiled new visuals of their Dubai skyscraper with what will have the world's tallest ceramic-finned facade, illuminated at night to make it appear as if the building is breathing.
Designed by the Dutch architects in collaboration with Werner Sobek, the Wasl Tower in Dubai is due to be completed in 2020.
The skyscraper will be clad in interlaced glazed clay tiles forming sweeping curves around the building. The angle of the fins will provide shade inside the building whilst allowing natural light to filter through.
It's a low-tech and sustainable solution to the highly technical challenge of designing such a tall building in Dubai's desert climate.
At night the facade will be lit up in a rhythm programmed to make it appear as if the tower is "breathing". Developed by engineering firm Arup, the lights will sit behind the fins and be solar powered by energy cube PV panels located on the car park.
The skyscraper will be directly opposite the Burj Khalifa, currently the tallest building in the world at 828-metres.
