The IOC reveals new brand identity for the Olympic Games

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has unveiled its brand identity for the Olympic Games, which includes new typefaces, illustrations and graphics that aim to bring the legacy of the games into the digital world.

Canadian creative agency Hulse & Durrell partnered with the IOC to develop three custom typefaces, a series of graphics and illustrations as well as guidelines for the brand.

"The brand is is a living beast, it's not something set in stone, but really our wish was to put the athletes, the sports and the Games part of the system," said IOC head of brand management May Guerraoui.

"Of course, the Game's branding, and the very big history we have has changed the world of design and branding and is a huge component of this Olympic brand but we all really felt we need to be more consistent," Guerraoui told Dezeen.
While the Olympic Games began in 1896, this is the first time a universal brand foundation has been created. The team began working on the brand identity in 2018 and began rolling out aspects such as the new fonts over the past four years.

With the full brand rollout expected to be completed in time for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the new brand identity will be used across all touchpoints of the brand including on banners, press releases and social media platforms.
