Pinecone-shaped mobile gazebo can be used for outdoor classrooms and campfires

Atelier SAD and Mmcite?1 have collaborated on the design of a mobile gazebo formed of scales that make it resemble a pinecone.
Called the Pinecone, the portable structure provides a shaded spot in public places, and can be used as a place for children to play, an outdoor classroom, a relaxation space, or a spot for a campfire. The structure can be moved and erected on the same day.
The self-supporting structure is formed of 109 waterproof plywood scales connected together with galvanised joints. Slots between the scales provide natural ventilation, creating a pleasant microclimate and acoustic within the Pinecone.
Each scale is angled so as to shelter and shade the occupants from the elements, whilst the weather-resistant coating prevents it from degrading over time.
