Drone footage tours bustling promenade on Chicago's riverfront
This drone footage captures a pathway along the riverfront in Chicago over one year after Sasaki and Ross Barney Architects transformed it into a busy public space, featuring fishing platforms and a spot for kayaking.
Having completed the Chicago Riverwalk in 2016, Boston-based Sasaki Associates and local firm Ross Barney Architects' tasked videographer Chang Kim to shoot the site from above to capture it in its full use.
Kim released the footage, which last three minutes long, in November 2017, just over 12 months after the walkway opened to the public.
"We knew we wanted to do something special to celebrate the completion of this transformative project ? something that would capture the experience of this vibrant public space that's nestled in the heart of one of America's most important architectural cities," Sasaki told Dezeen.
"We've photographed the project several times now, but static photography doesn't place the viewer in the space quite like moving images can," they continued. "We couldn't be happier with how well this video tells the story of this project."
Shot over two days in "perfect weather", the film pairs drone imagery taken by a high definition camera to provide a wide overview of the site with ground-level footage captured by a tripod-mounted to show the public enjoying the space.
